German coach Joachim Loew was clearly delighted as his men squeezed Turkey, 3-2, to play a record sixth EURO final. “It is an incredible feeling. The players themselves are thrilled to have won a game like that. After conceding their second goal, we were strong enough mentally to come back and it was an excellent move that resulted in the third goal,” Loew said after the game. “Technically they are excellent and there were spells in the match where we struggled. It was difficult, but we were clinical and scored three goals which made the difference, from fewer chances than against Portugal in the quarter-final. We showed a winning mentality.” Semih Senturk scored a late equalizer for Turkey, 2-2, and they seemed on their way for another miraculous turn around. German winger Philip Lahm scored the winner in injury time to clinch a spot in the final game. Loew was also full of praise for his opponents who are seen as the big revelation of the tournament. “We were lucky to score in the 90th minute. Congratulations to Turkey for a fantastic show.”
