Werder Bremen midfielder Torsten Frings won the Bundesliga player of the Month of May by Kicker. The magazine paid tribute to his great recovery after a lengthy lay off because of a knee injury. Frings' misfortunes began in July 2007 when he damaged cruciate ligaments in his right knee. He missed most of the season as he underwent three operations in his knee and was only back in March. The 31-year old midfielder helped Werder Bremen win six of their last eight fixtures to finish second in the table. Germany manager Joachim Low picked him for the Euro 2008. Schalke's Marcelo Bordon was second in Kicker's poll while Bayern Munich Frank Ribery ended third.
