Zenit St. Petersburg winger Igor Denisov has turned down a rare call-up to represent Russia in this summer's Euro 2008. The 24-year-old helped Zenit win the UEFA Cup last week, scoring the opening goal in their 2-0 final win over Rangers. Consequently, Russia coach Guus Hiddink was impressed by Denisov's performance, but indicated that the Zenit winger chose not to play in Austria and Switzerland. "We invited him to join the team but he rejected the offer. Well, it's his choice," Hiddink told reporters. "Probably he felt he wasn't ready yet to be a regular player on the national team, but we'll keep him in mind when we start our 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign." Russia will compete in Group D, alongside holders Greece, Sweden and Spain.
