Roma midfielder Simone Perrotta fears the financial strength of English clubs could enable them to outmuscle their Italian counterparts in European competitions. "The English clubs have a stratospheric economic power and it will be increasingly difficult to compete with them for international titles," Perrotta said. "Every year they sign the top players on the market by spending sums the rest of the continent cannot match," he was quoted as saying by Calcio Italia. American tycoon George Soros was reportedly ready to take over Roma, who could be embroiled in a financial crisis as a result of their debts. Talks between Soros and Roma have stopped for unknown reasons. Egyptian businessman Naguib Sawiris was also in the frame recently, but he denied having an interest in buying the Giallorossi. Perrotta underlined the importance of money in modern football. "Economic power means a great deal in football now and allows them to take the best players in circulation. This is why the English sides are dominating in Europe right now."
