Manchester United assistant coach Carlos Queiroz hit out at refereeing after the 2-1 defeat against Chelsea on Saturday, insisting that wrong decisions cost his side so much this season. The defeat at Stamford Bridge put United level with Chelsea on 81 points, with Queiroz and Alex Ferguson's men leading on goal difference. United were close to snatching a draw but referee Alan Wiley awarded the home side a penalty in the 90th minute and it was successfully converted by Michael Ballack. But Queiroz believes the Germany captain has earlier fouled Cristiano Ronaldo in the area and was wondering why the referee didn't point to the spot. "How can the referee not see that Ballack has jumped on Ronaldo?" he said on BBC Sport. "It must be necessary for a player to bring a gun and shoot one of our men in the box for us to get a penalty." Queiroz went on to say that United suffered other damages due to wrong refereeing decisions. "We are not in the FA Cup final because of a bad decision when we should have had a penalty against Portsmouth," the Portuguese said. "Against Barcelona in the Champions League on Wednesday, there should have been three penalties but only one was given. "Something is wrong with football."
