Ghana captain John Mensah has been handed a one match-ban and so he will be able to play in the final of the African Nations Cup if his country beat Cameroon in the semi-finals next Thursday. The 25-year old defender has been sent off last Sunday against Nigeria, in the quarter finals, following a professional foul. Nigerian winger Peter Odemwingie was clear on goal and Mensah had to bring him down to prevent the goal. He was shown the red in the 62nd minute but the Black Stars were able to score the winner and beat Nigeria, 2-1, with only 10 men on the pitch. He was expected to be given a two-match ban just like Guinea captain Pascal Feindouno who was sent off in the group stage for violent conduct.
