Al-Gaish and Petrojet stumbled in the Egyptian League on Thursday, giving title holders Ahli the chance to occupy the summit. Leaders Al-Gaish were held to a goalless draw by ENPPI, who wasted golden opportunities to condemn their opponents to their second defeat this season. Twelve minutes after restart, Ivorian striker Vincent Die Foneye fired poorly wide from six yards with the goal at his mercy. Shortly after, defender Mohamed Al-Zayat saw his close-range header superbly blocked by Al-Gaish keeper. Elsewhere, Ten-man Petrojet failed to keep up pace at the summit after suffering a last-gasp 3-2 defeat to Harras Al-Hodoud at home.
Al-Hodoud stun Petrojet Ahmed Hamed stunned the home crowd midway through the first-half before Mohamed Gouda doubled the lead in the 57th minute. Despite falling two down, and having to play with ten men after defender Tawfik Agmouhi was sent-off in the 63rd minute, Petrojet managed to fight back and restore parity. Egyptian international Walid Soliman pulled one back five minutes past the hour mark before league top scorer Alaa Ibrahim grabbed the equalizer seven minutes later. Mohamed Al-Herda sealed the precious victory for military club Al-Hodoud two minutes from time. Al-Gaish are in charge of the table with 27 points, two ahead of second-placed Petrojet. However, Ahli could leapfrog both teams if they beat Aluminum later on Thursday.
