European champions AC Milan have been stunned by a 1-0 home defeat to lowly side Empoli in the eighth week of the Serie A on Sunday. Luca Saudati's strike ten minutes after the interval was enough to give Empoli a famous San Siro victory and hand Milan their second defeat this term. The Rossoneri slumped to 11th position in the Serie A table after losing their 14th point in eight games, while Empoli jump to 16th place with eight points. Milan rested Brazilian star man Kaka for the Empoli game, as the UEFA Champions League holders prepare to face Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday. Elsewhere, Lazio grabbed a vital 1-0 away victory at Livorno thanks to goal from Macedonian forward Goran Pandev. In Florence, Fiorentina trounced Siena 3-0, with Christian Vieri getting his name on the score sheet, along with Adrian Mutu and GianPaolo Pazzini.

Later on Sunday, Juventus overtook Roma's place as runner-up to Inter with a 1-0 win over Genoa. Captain Alessandro Del Piero, who has just recently pledged his future to the Turin outfit, scored the only goal of the game after 36 minutes. Juve Czech playmaker Pavel Nedved was sent off moments before the end, followed by coach Claudio Ranieri, who furiously protested on the decision. Juve reached 17 points in second place, whereas Genoa have 12 points lying sixth.
