Big names stay put in transfer deadline day
Published in FilGoal on 01 - 09 - 2007

The deadline day of the summer transfer window witnessed a host of players starting a new challenge with new clubs, but the list of transfers did not include some of the expected big deals in speculation.
It came as a surprise to many that Sevilla's Daniel Alves and Inter Milan's Adriano stayed quiet over the last night of the transfer deadline despite being poised for leaving their respective clubs.
Brazilian full-back Alves led the headlines in recent weeks as the highly-rated winger was pleading for a bigger move to either Chelsea or Real Madrid, but Sevilla succeeded in keeping their want-away star man.
Alves' compatriot Adriano refused to go on loan recently and the out of form striker failed to seal a move that could grab him off the Inter bench.
Another high-profile South American that will remain at his club is Argentina ace Juan Roman Riquelme, who is set to stay in La Liga with Villarreal.
The skilful playmaker was reportedly linked by a move to Atletico Madrid after he spent last season on loan at Boca Juniors, following a dispute with Villarreal coach.
Bolton Wanderers ace Nicolas Anelka, who was monitored by Manchester United and Arsenal, will stay with the Trotters after he pledged his future at the Reebok Stadium by signing a four-year deal.
Rafael Van der Vaart failed to join Valencia despite announcing publicly that he wants to leave Hamburg for the Primera Liga side, whose attempts to grab the Dutch playmaker were blocked by the Bundesliga side.

DONE DEALS
Arsenal sealed a last-gasp move for Chelsea midfielder Lassana Diarra, who is set for a long-term stay at the Emirates Stadium.
Papa Bouba Diop left Fulham for Portsmouth, making room for England international Danny Murphy (Tottenham) to start a new challenge at Craven Cottage.
Pompey signed Glen Johnson on a permanent deal from Chelsea after the England full-back spent a fine season on-loan at Fratton Park last term.
West Ham signed Senegal ace Henri Camara in a one-year loan deal from Wigan in attempt from the Hammers to cover the gap left by Carlos Tevez.
Barcelona's Thiago Motta signed a one-year deal at Atletico Madrid for a fee of 2million Euros.
Valencia loaned out Spain defender Asier Del Horno to his former club Athletic Bilbao on a one-year deal.
Parma recalled striker Bernardo Corradi from Manchester City as the Italian spent last season on loan at the City of Manchester Stadium without making much impression.
Uruguay captain Alvaro Recoba will join Torino on loan from Italian champions Inter, where he struggled to find a regular place.
