France international midfielder Claude Makelele has been tied at Stamford Bridge until 2009 after signing a one-year-extension to his contract with Chelsea. The 34-year-old midfielder's contract was due to expire in June 2008 and he seemed close to the Blues' exit door. He had a long talk with Manager Jose Mourinho after what he put pen-on-paper. It is believed that the former Real Madrid player has asked for more regular football and a slight cut of his wage could have been agreed also. The France midfielder joined Chelsea for 13.9million pounds from Real Madrid in 2003 and has been a key member of the club's successes since then winning the English league title in 2004 and 2005.
