Nuno Gomes has not been included in Benfica's 21-man squad for the friendly game against Ahli on Sunday as he is yet to recover from a groin injury sustained in May. The Portuguese frontman will stay in his homeland to continue rehabilitation program in order to be fit for the new season's start. Brazilian defender Anderson has been also left out after criticizing Benfica manager Fernando Santos for not fielding him in his favorite position in the left-center side of the defense. Midfielder Nuno Assis returns to Benfica squad after his one-year ban because of a doping charge ended. Former AC Milan playmaker Rui Costa and Angolan forward Pedro Mantorras are set to play in the match, which will mark Ahli's 100-year anniversary. On the other hand, Ahli will miss striker Emad Meteb who has been suspended for 10 days following his inappropriate reaction at being substituted in the club's 3-0 CAF Champions League victory over Esperance. Midfield duo Mohamed Shawki and Mohamed Barakat are also doubtful due to injuries. Ahli were handed a 4-0 defeat by Spanish giants Barcelona in April in the first match of the Egyptian champions' centennial celebrations.
