A sublime extra-time goal from Kaka led AC Milan to a 1-0 home victory over Celtic and a place in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals on Wednesday. The Brazilian international playmaker produced a solo effort to score the winner three minutes into extra-time after a goalless draw. Kaka could have given the hosts an early lead in the fourth minute with a curling shot but Artur Boruc blocked it with his left hand. Two minutes later, Celtic appealed for a penalty when Jiri Jarosik's shot came off Paolo Maldini's arm but the referee waved play on. The game looked balanced after an early drama as both teams looked relying on their star playmakers, Kaka and talented Japanese Shunsuke Nakamura. Kaka'a threat was once more in action but his 38th minute shot was again denied by the impressive Boruc.
One minute later, the crossbar kept a clean sheet for Celtic, denying a Massimo Ambrosini 's header. Experienced striker Filippo Inzaghi failed to make use of Marek Jankulovski's cross as he hit the side netting six minutes into the second half. Substitute Thomas Gravesen almost made an immediate impact three minutes past the hour mark but his volley from the edge of the area was blocked by Milan's right back Massimo Oddo. Boruc was called into action once again when he showed safe hands to Maldini's header six minutes from time. The Boruc show continued in the 87th minute after he brilliantly tipped Seedorf's free kick over the bar. One minute from time, Kaka hit the crossbar with a long shot as both teams headed to extra time. Kaka finally found a way to Boruc's net with a superb solo run through Celtic midfield before firing a low drive between the Polish keeper's legs to seal the win for the hosts.
