Swedish striker Henrik Larsson scored in his last game for Manchester United to lead the Premiership leaders to a 1-0 home win over French side and a place in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals. Mathieu Chalme denied the hosts an early lead in the 14th minute when he blocked a volley from Wayne Rooney who was set-up by Larsson. One minute later, Irish defender John O'Shea headed off the bar as United looked on course for a likely opener after quarter an hour. Unmarked Cameroonian international Jean Makoun failed to score from a close range in the 22nd minute, heading straight to the hands of Dutch keeper Edwin van der Sar. Four minutes past the hour mark, Michael Carrick struck from long range but his effort went just wide of Toni Sylva's upright.
Larsson scored in his last match In the first-half's stoppage time, Chalme supplied Peter Odemwingie with a lovely cross but the Nigerian failed to connect as the score remained goalless at the interval. Stephane Dumont came close 23 minutes after re-start but Van der Sar was in time once again. Larsson, who will return to hometown club Helsingborg on March 12th, finally broke the deadlock in the 72nd minute when he headed home Cristiano Ronaldo's cross from the left flank. Abdul Kader Keita missed the chance for an instant equalizer when his shot went just over the upright. Substitute Alan Smith could have marked his return with a goal but his 89th minute effort was saved by Sylva.
