Egyptian giants Ahli were crowned African Super Cup champions after beating Etoile Sahel of Tunisia 5-4 in a penalty shootout on Sunday. Ahli defender Emad Al-Nahhas slotted home the decisive spot kick as Essam Al-Hadari continued his shootout heroics by denying Khaled Melliti in the second kick. Al-Hadari was the hero for Ahli last year when he made crucial shootout saves as Ahli beat Morocco's Royal Armed Forces to win the Super Cup.
Neither team lived up to the occasion as they failed to create any real chance to end the regular and extra time in a goalless draw. Players from both sides had to cope with the high altitude and a dismal pitch in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia where CAF decided to hold the game as a part of its 50th anniversary celebrations. Ahli are now at level with Cairo rivals Zamalek who also have three continental Super Cups to their name.
