French champions Lyon have signed Milan Baros from Aston Villa in a deal that will see John Carew goes the other direction, the two clubs announced on Monday. Czech striker Baros has finalized his deal with Lyon before Carew agreed a move to Premiership side Villa. Baros, 25, will be playing again under Gerard Houllier after the French coach landed him at Liverpool in 2002. He turned down a move to Lyon in the summer of 2005 when he was still at Anfield.
Carew But he made a U-turn in January to join the Ligue 1 leaders in search for a new challenge after escoring only one Premiership goal this season. "I know that he is a very strong player, a hard worker, who will blend into the team," Houllier said after sealing the move. Meanwhile, Carew, who signed for Lyon in 2005, was nagged by several injuries this season and struggled to restore his starting spot. The 27-year-old Norway forward had spells with Valencia, Roma and Turkish side Besiktas. Carew was strongly linked with a move to Bundesliga title frontrunners Werder Bremen in the transfer window.
