Cairo International Airport-Ahmed Maher: For the second time in two months Ahli's players and coaching staff were give a heroes' welcome by tens of thousands of Egyptians upon their arrival from Japan on Tuesday. Ahli won the bronze medal in the 2006 FIFA Club World Cup after beating Club America of Mexico in the third place playoff on Sunday to register an unprecedented feat for any African or Arab football team. The African champions were received by a string of top Egyptian officials who lined up at Cairo International Airport.
Al-Hadari interacting with Ahli's fans Gamal Mubarak, the older son of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, Ahli chairman Hassan Hamdi, Egyptian Football Association President Samir Zaher and Hassan Saqr, Head of the Egyptian Higher Sports Council, greeted the players upon their arrival on Tuesday afternoon. The players left the airport in an open-top bus amid cheers from a sea of fans who paraded with the players across Cairo until they reached the club headquarters in Al-Gezira where the celebrations continued. Ahli players came home to a similar reception on November 13th after winning their record-equaling fifth African Champions League title after beating CS Sfaxien of Tunisia 2-1 on aggregate.
