Barcelona agree Gudjohnsen deal
Published in FilGoal on 14 - 06 - 2006

Chelsea striker Eidur Gudjohnsen is set to sign a four-year deal with European champions Barcelona after passing a medical on Wednesday.
"Eidur Gudjohnsen passed his medical with the club and will be officially presented as Frank Rijkaard's first signing for the 2006-7 season this evening (Wednesday)," a statement on the FC Barcelona website said.
The 27-year-old striker will take the place of the Swedish Henrik Larsson who left Barcelona after deciding to end his career at his home town club of Helsingborg.
“"he's obviously been looking after himself and he's very fit. There's no obvious problems from his previous injuries and I'll be giving Txiki the medical OK to sign him," Barcelona team doctor Gil Rodas stated.
The Catalonian team have reportedly agreed to pay around 12 million Euros ($15 million) for Chelsea's second top scorer, who arrived at Stamford Bridge six years ago for four million pounds ($7.35 million).
The Iceland captain went on to win two league titles, a Carling Cup and a Community Shield scoring 78 goals in 263 matches.
Gudjohnsen could have found his skills going to waste next season after Chelsea signed Micheal Ballack and Andriy Shevchenko to reinforce the team.
On the other hand Barcelona captain Carles Puyol expressed his happiness to have the striker play with him in the team.
"I've played against him and he's a great player. He's fast, quick, scores goals and could be really good for us. Barca has a history [of winning] and hopefully he will work well with us," Puyol told Mundo Deportivo on Wednesday,
