AC Milan captain Paolo Maldini is doubtful for his side's game against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League due to injury, the veteran defender said Monday. Milan, who finished as runners-up in last season's Champions League, will visit the Bundesliga champions on February 21st in the first-leg of the round of the 16. "It's not a fitness problem, the problem is to do with the pain that I still have," Milan's official website quoted Maldini as saying in a press conference. "I would like to play against Bayern Munich but I would also like to play before that game, however, this injury has its ups and downs." The 37-year-old former international was hit by a knee injury late in 2005 and failed to feature for Milan for more than two months despite announcing his recovery earlier in February. "I am 80% at the moment but I need to be 100% to play. It's essential to have a test in a game after two and a half months out," he said "Unfortunately, there have been ups and downs and as I said I need to be 100% to play and I have to get over this injury to get the season going." Milan have suffered huge defensive problems this season with Maldini and veteran right-back Cafu missing the majority of the campaign through injury and first-choice goalkeeper Dida putting on a string of poor displays. The Rossoneri have so far conceded 24 goals in the Serie A this season, nine more than holders Juventus who are 12 points clear at the top of the standings.
