Ivory Coast beat favorites Cameroon 12-11 in a breath taking penalty shootout on Saturday to qualify to the African Cup of Nations semi-finals. Didier Drogba struck home the decisive shot after Cameroon's Samuel Eto'o missed his penalty. Extra time ended in a 1-1 draw thanks to a goal from Ivory Coast's Bakary Kone in the second minute of extra time and an equalizer from Albert Meyong Ze three minutes later. Ivory Coast will next take on Nigeria, who beat title holders Tunisia 6-5 in a penalty shootout earlier, in the semi-final in Alexandria on Tuesday.
Cameroon's Geremi upset The first 90 minutes witnessed rare chances for both sides only to end in a goalless stalemate. The game sprung to life in extra time when substitute Kone fired a fierce drive home past Cameroon keeper Souleymanou Hamidou after Arouna Kone's initial effort cannoned off the crossbar. Three minutes later, Daniel Ngom Kome squared Meyong Ze who fired home from close range. The game went into a long and enticing shootout that saw all 22 players score from the spot to register the highest-scoring shootout in the African Nations Cup history. Barcelona striker Eto'o, the tournament's top-scorer so far, missed on his second penalty before Chelsea opposite number Drogba made it two-for-two from the spot.
