Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard criticized fans for the reception they gave former striker Michael Owen on his return to Anfield on Monday. Owen made his return to Anfield for the first time since leaving Liverpool for Real Madrid in the summer of 2004. "I am disappointed," Gerrard told Sky Sports News after the game. "He (Owen) should be a legend here for all the goals he has scored for us in the past." The Newcastle striker was received with a hail of booing from a section of the Liverpool fans ahead of the match that saw their side beat the visitors 2-0. "He got a mixed reception. I do not think they were booing him much but he deserves a standing ovation," he added. First-half goals from Gerrard and striker Peter Crouch secured the three points for Liverpool, sending them to third place in the Premiership table on 34 points.
