EGYPT vs. ENGLAND
Kickoff: 20.00 CLT
FIFA U-20 World Cup, Group E
Venue: Ataturk Stadium, Bursa
MATCH FACTS
-After the recent 2-1 loss to Iraq, Egypt's overall goal difference in their U-20 World Cup history became zero; 41 goals scored and 41 conceded.
-Egypt met England twice at the U-20 World Cup, with the Young Lions winning the first clash 4-2 in 1981 courtesy of a stunning comeback inspired by an ex-Manchester United man Neil Webb hat-trick. Egypt won the second game 1-0 in 2003 with a Emad Meteb goal.
-If they failed to make it through the group stage, it will be the third time for Egypt to crash out of the first round in three appearances on European soil.
-In each of the five times Egypt made it to the knockouts, they had to wait until the final group game.
-England are on an astonishing U-20 World Cup winless streak that stretches back 16 years and as many games.
-The last time the English won a World Cup match was against Mexico in Malaysia 1997 when the retired Michael Owen scored the only goal.
-In the previous tournament in Colombia 2011, England qualified for the next round without scoring a single goal in their group.
-The Young Lions can still reach the knockouts without a single win if they drew with Egypt and Uruguay lost without scoring against Uzbekistan in Group F.
-In eight previous meetings against African nations at the U-20 World Cup, England have never drawn; won three and lost five.
QUOTES
Egypt coach Rabie Yassin
"We need to win - that is our only option. The defeat to Iraq was a big disappointment; I take full responsibility and apologize to the Egyptian people.
"We haven't changed anything from the team that won the African Championship and I don't think we've played too badly, but this is the nature of football: sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.
"But, again, I ask that people blame me and not the players. They are young and have their futures ahead, so we must look to find excuses for them."
England coach Peter Taylor
"We know that it's an important match and we've started the tournament with two draws so we know how important a win will be.
"We also know that Egypt will be desperate to get a win and have been unfortunate not to have had a win in the tournament so far, so it should be a good game.
"I'm expecting Egypt to be organized and determined. We know they need to win the match by three or four goals, so they will need to be even more positive than they would already be."
TEAM NEWS
Unlike the first two matches, Egypt boss Yassin did not announce his starting line-up as the Young Pharaohs have no major injury concerns.
Hossam Ghaly could start after coming on as a second-half substitute against Iraq while Ahmed Refaat could also feature after being dropped in the previous match.
England have defender Danny Potts suspended as coach Taylor indicated that Luke Garbutt could feature.
EGYPT'S CHANCES
EGYPT WILL QUALIFY IF THEY:
1-win by a three-goal margin.
2-win by two goals and Uruguay lose to Uzbekistan by two or more goals.
3-win by two goals and Uruguay lose to Uzbekistan 2-1.
4-win by one goal and Uruguay lose to Uzbekistan by three or more goals.
