Egypt were held to a 1-1 draw by Botswana in a warm-up game ahead of the World Cup qualifiers. An early goal by Jerome Ramatlhakwane gave African minnows Botswana a shock fifth minute lead, but the fit-again Hegazi equalized with a header near the break. Egypt prepare to take on Zimbabwe in Harare on June 9 before visiting Mozambique in the penultimate round of Group G. Gomaa blunder Captaining Egypt on his 113th appearance, veteran Wael Gomaa was guilty of a horrendous back-pass that allowed striker Ramatlhakwane to snatch a fifth minute opener despite Sherif Ekrami's initial block. On the half hour, Botswana almost doubled their lead with a magnificent long-range lob, but the vigilant Ekrami was at full stretch to palm away. With seven minutes until half time, Hegazi finished off a well-crafted team move to score his first international goal in his first start in 2013. Shortly after the break, Ahmed Eid was very unlucky to see his long-range drive hit the post. Eid's Zamalek teammate Ahmed Gaafar saw his curling effort denied by a superb save from Botswana keeper Kabelo Dambe. Botswana held on to their draw as Egypt boss Bob Bradley made a number of second-half subs but couldn't change the scoreline.
