The eleventh report in the series of Egypt Human Development Reports, commissioned by UNDP in collaboration with the Institute of National Planning, affiliated to the Ministry of Economic Development, will be launched in Cairo on Sunday, the UN Development Programme (UNDP) said Thursday. Egyptian Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif is set to participate in the event, together with a number of key ministers including Osman Mohamed Osman, the Minister of State for Economic Development. A number of key Government officials along with representatives from the Peoples' Assembly and Shura Council (the two houses of the Parliament), in addition to representatives from the donor community, UN agencies in Egypt headed by UNDP Resident Representative and UN Resident Co-ordinator James W. Rawley, academia, the private sector, and a large gathering from youth organisations will also participate in the launch. The report, Youth in Egypt: Building the Future, examines the role of youth in Egypt's development process, examining issues including education, health, gender, property, employment, housing and participation in society. The report also showcases success stories of youth-centred initiatives, programmes and projects, calling for greater consultation and communication between young people, the Government and civil society. In conclusion, the report highlights nine main messages to ensure youth's inclusion and full participation in society. Over the course of the day-long event, a number of sessions will cover different issues including: youth access to quality services; socio-cultural and political environments; economic and business environments; and finally a closing panel composed of youth will focus on innovative solutions to youth challenges.
