Egypt's Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Mohamed Nasr Allam will visit Addis Ababa on Saturday for representing Egypt at a two-day meeting by the Nile Basin Ministers' Council, the local media reported Wednesday. The meeting comes after a regional row that erupted after the signing by five African states of a new controversial agreement on water-sharing opposed by Cairo. The new pact was signed by Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda for what is said to be an equitable sharing of the Nile waters, despite strong opposition from Egypt and Sudan, which enjoy the lion's share of the river. Egypt is now trying to engage in discussions to ensure it is not left out of a process that is vital to its future.
