EL-TAHRIR Publishing and Printing House, which publishes The Gazette, and Egypt Post have agreed on a set of innovative measures for encouraging artists and intellectuals as well as boosting the cultural drive in Egypt, Board Chairman Ali Hashem told the participants in a Cairo forum on Sunday. Hashem lauded the role played by Egypt Post over the years in helping advance the nation's cultural movement. Addressing the Tewfiq el-Hakeem Forum, co-organised at the Police Club by Egypt Post and el-Tahrir House, Hashem said that the two establishments have approved financial awards for the nation's poets, novelists and cartoonists, who distinguish themselves with remarkable works that are presented to the annual Grand Cultural Competition. During the forum, Hashem and Egypt Post Chairman Ashraf Zaki honoured the grandson of writer and intellectual Tewfiq el-Hakeem, after whom the gathering was named, as well as writer Bahaa Taher and late novelist Fawzi Shalabi. Likewise, Zaki said that Egypt Post was keen on organising an annual cultural forum to encourage the nation's young writers to be more creative and present innovative works that would enrich the cultural life in Egypt.
