Egypt's ruling National Democratic Party (NDP) garnered 70 seats of the June 1 elections of the Shura Council as the banned Muslim Brotherhood failed to win any seats in the Upper house of the Egyptian Parliament. There will be a re-run next Tuesday for 10 seats, the head of a Government-backed electoral panel said Thursday. "The NDP got 70 seats of the Shura Council (14 unopposed and 56 elected) as the parties of el-Ghad, el-Geel, the Nasserite and Al-Tagammu won a seat each," said Judge Intissar Nessim, the head of the Higher Electoral Commission. He added that there would be re-run for 10 seats in five governorates. "Nine independent candidates and 11 from the NDP will re-run on Tuesday," he said. The banned Muslim Brotherhood got no seats as it announced Thursday against the rigging and fraud it claimed dominated the vote.
