Fatal falling apart: A young man committed suicide by pouring petrol on himself and setting it alight at his parents-in-law's home in el-Zohour district of Port Said. He was feeling unhappy after having a big argument with his wife. Mohamed Abdu (34) died of his injuries two hours after being admitted to Port Said General Hospital. Quite some time ago, Mohamed's widow had taken their two sons, aged four and two, with her and gone to live with her mother and father. He'd asked her several times to come back, but she refused. On the day he died, he asked her once more, but again the answer was no. Mohamed's brothers and sisters confirmed that he was feeling depressed because his marriage had fallen apart. Lifting the veil: An alert police officer caught a man who'd done time for theft, disguised as a monaqaba (fully veiled woman), stealing from patients and also lifting medical equipment from Qena General Hospital. Captain Hisham el-Amir was on duty at the hospital, guarding two men who'd been admitted after being injured in a fight in the local prison, when he spotted a monaqaba who wasn't walking in a very feminine way. As the officer approached the suspect, he tried to run off, but Captain Hisham was able to detain him. Murder in the match: On Friday night last week, arch-rivals Al-Ahly and Zamalek drew 3-3 in a pulsating clash, pushing Ahly, the Red Devils, to the brink of a sixth successive league title. While virtually everyone in Egypt was riveted by the match, two other devils weren't. Instead of watching the match on TV, they murdered an old lady to death in her flat in el-Qabeela Street, off Clot Bey Street in the Ezbekiya district of downtown Cairo. The suspects killed 70-year-old Salouha Nasr, aka Aida Ghawayish (Aida Bracelets) for her jewellery. The suspects carefully chose their moment to sneak into the room where Salouha lived on her own. After killing her, they stole her gold jewellery - 15 bracelets, two rings and some earrings - worth around LE25,000. They then fled to their native village of el-Shoubak, near Ahnasiya in Beni Sueif Governorate, where they laid low before being arrested. Salouha's body wasn't discovered till Sunday, two days after her death, when the regulars at the café near her flat became worried as they hadn't seen her. Her two killers worked in the same café. They hit the old lady on the head with a bottle and then strangled her, before trashing the room in their search for valuables. The victim has been widowed 20 years before her death. She and her husband never had children. Salouha spent a lot of time sitting in the café, where the many gold bracelets on her arms didn't go unobserved by the waiters, Hani Gomaa (28) and his friend, Ahmed Abdel-Aziz (23). They came unstuck because one of Salouha's neighbours who wasn't watching the match spotted the two waiters emerging from her flat in an agitated state. The fact that they immediately fled to Upper Egypt did them no favours either. The deceased's valuables have been recovered.
