THE death toll from the Friday road crash on the outskirts of the Mediterranean city of Alexandria rose to seven on Saturday, police sources have reported. They said that six university students were instantly killed and two injured when their speeding car rammed into a Cairo-bound vehicle outside Alexandria after its tyre blew out early on Friday. The rescue workers have dug out six bodies and two wounded passengers from the van after it crashed into a car owned by the sister of Culture Minister Farouq Hosni, they added. A student died of his injuries at an Alexandria hospital yesterday, the sources said. The two cars were on the Alexandria- Cairo Desert Road when they crashed at a sharp corner after the students' vehicle flipped over as its tyre blew out, they said. Police investigations revealed that student was exceeding the speed limit when the incident occurred. Meanwhile, the Alexandria prosecutor issued a burial permit to the families of the dead students.
