PARIS - French President Nicolas Sarkozy has canceled a trip to Egypt because of President Hosni Mubarak's illness, the daily Le Figaro reported on Friday. The cancellation of the visit, which had been scheduled for the beginning of May, suggests that the 81-year-old Mubarak may be more ill than officially admitted. Mubarak's gall bladder and a polyp in his small intestine were removed on March 6 after he was admitted to a German clinic with what was officially diagnosed as a serious inflammation of the gall bladder. He resumed official duties on Thursday, heading a cabinet meeting in the resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, where he is recuperating. Mubarak's illness has provoked a crisis in Egypt because of the question of who is to succeed him if he dies. In his 29 years in power, he has never named a vice president.
