Tragic temptation:Aworker from Assiut threw himself to his death from the roof of a fifth-floor building in Awseem, 6th October Governorate, because he was afraid of scandal after making a pass at the widow of one of his relatives who'd just died.
The Upper Egyptian who killed himself was named as Rashad Hassanein (45).
He'd been round to the home of a 38-yearold woman called Fayza, who works as a servant and whose husband it was who died.
When Rashad pushed his way into her flat and tried to take her clothes off, she tried to defend herself with a broom. He refused to back down, until she threatened to scream and attract the neighbours' attention. He then told her he was going to jump off the roof. Fayza didn't think he would, but she was wrong.
Doctor's misdemeanour: The Kafr el- Dawar Misdemeanour Court of Appeal has sentenced a gynaecologist and obstetrician to a year in prison. If he pays LE10,000, he won't have to serve the sentence.
The doctor was found guilty of negligence that led to the death of a woman upon whom he was performing a Caesarean in his unequipped private surgery.
Dr Essam Mahmoud had previously been sentenced to two years behind bars by the Misdemeanour Court, which blamed him for the death of Iman Hamouda, as she gave birth to twins. It was acute haemorrhaging that killed her.
Fatal photo: A teenage worker called Ayman Abdel-Aal has been arrested on suspicion of killing one of his colleagues, Wael Shukri, because he took a picture of the suspect on his mobile phone while he was inhaling hashish.
Ayman hit the photographer on the head with a heavy metal instrument and he died in Awseem General Hospital in 6th October Governorate of his injuries.
Both the victim and his killer were from Sohag Governorate in Upper Egypt and had travelled up to the capital for work.
Their drug-taking session turned nasty when Wael photographed his friend, blew smoke from his joint in his face, then threatened to send the pic to his folks back in Sohag. The pair started arguing and Ayman became violent. After attacking Wael, he ran off.
Boyfriend and burglar:Ayoung woman and her boyfriend, a teenage undergraduate, have been arrested on suspicion of stealing gold jewellery worth about LE500,000 from her father, a pensioner.
Saeed reported the valuables missing from his flat in Maadi, Helwan Governorate.
He had no idea who might have burgled him, but the fact that there was no sign of breaking and entering suggested that it could well be an inside job. Detectives then caught a young man who was in possession of LE130,000, the money a jeweller in el-Sharqia Governorate had just paid him for the haul. The good news is that Saeed has got his jewellery back.
The suspect, 19-year-old Mohamed, said that he'd become involved with one of his fellow students, the daughter of Saeed, a retired civil servant. She it was who'd got a spare key cut for her dad's flat, gave it to her boyfriend and suggested he burgle the joint.
