EGYPT'S First Lady Suzanne Mubarak decided to launch a national fund-raising campaign to build an advanced cancer hospital in the 6th of October Governorate to replace the diaplating Cairo Tumours Institute. The planned hospital, which will be built on an area of 50 acres, will be staffed by the best specialised medics and equipped with the latest state-of-the -art medical equipment to give high-quality treatment to patients, Mrs. Mubarak told a meeting attended by top Government officials yesterday. "An area of 50 acres has been selected in the 6th of October Governorate for building up the new hospital, which will be affilated to the Cairo University," Mrs. Mubarak said after reviewing the project's design drawings and appraisal report, which were presented by a local consultancy firm. She said that a White Book would be printed soon to explain the approved mission statement, recurrent and development budgets for the hospital, as well as its already set construction, staffing and equipping time tables. "The hospital's White Book will be available this month so that subscripers can know about the project's goals and costs," Mrs. Mubarak said. She called on the Egyptians to contribute for building this hospital, which she said would be the most advanced and biggest medical centre for treating cancer patients in the Middle East and Africa. However, the project's feasibily study did not mention the bed capacity or the official name of the new public hospital, which will be located just a few kilometres outside Sheikh Zayyed City in the Governorate.
