An influential court, advising the Egyptian Government, Monday, reiterated its opposition to the appointment of women judges. The ban was re-emphasised in a vote by the General Assembly of the State Council. Around 318 judges out of 319, who attended the crisis meeting in Cairo, voted against appointing women as judges. On February 15, the State Council, a court authorised to settle administrative disputes concerning the exercise of public power, voted by overwhelming majority against appointing judges to the court. The ban has been sharply condmned by pro-women groups in Egypt.
