Violence in Sayyeda: A 21-year-old worker was fatally stabbed twice, in the neck and chest, by the man who'd just stolen his mobile. It was in el-Sayyeda Zeinab that the 41-year-old thief, a carpenter called Hossam Hassan, knifed his victim, Ahmed Mohamed. Hossam ran away after the incident, but has now been arrested.
He has admitted killing Ahmed after they'd argued over the mobile. Orfi fatality: A 59 year-old man called Ahmed Abdel-Azeem and his 29-year-old son, Ragab, are suspected of killing a 37- year-old unemployed man called Samir Mohamed. Ahmed decided to murder Samir when he started putting pressure on him to make his orfi (unregistered) marriage to his (Samir's) sister official.
After they'd had a huge argument, Ahmed stabbed Samir with the help of his son. Samir was dead by the time he reached Zifta General Hospital in el- Gharbia Governorate. Ahmed and his son are helping police with their inquiries into the incident.
Seventh sweetheart stabs Swede: We often read in the papers about middle-aged women from countries like England who come here for a holiday in Luxor. These women, generally divorced or widowed, sometimes fall for the charms of handsome young Egyptian men, younger than their own sons. It often ends in marriage.
Meanwhile, moving a little eastwards in Hurghada on the Red Sea, a similar scenario recently unfolded. Admittedly, there were one or two differences: the lady was Swedish, not English, and she didn't just fall for one fellow.
The first police heard about it was when the security guard at the block of flats where the 63-year-old Swedish pensioner had been living for more than a year went to the police, because he hadn't seen her for a few days.
Detectives came round and broke into her flat, in which she had been living for over a year, where they found her dead on the bedroom floor. Their inquiries revealed that the victim had been married to seven young Egyptian men in Hurghada, all in the space of just six months.
She'd got to know her last husband, a 27-year-old butcher called Saeed Abdel- Salam, in a nightclub in this attractive Red Sea resort. Saeed and his wife had spent the night together in her flat. He'd then chloroformed and strangled her, before running off with her mobile and her money.
Samia's tragedy: Fayoum Criminal Court has sentenced five men to 15 years in prison, having found them guilty of kidnapping and raping a mentally challenged young woman in the fields. It was in May 2008 that the rapists, all from the village of Senhour el-Qiblia near Senouris, sputted their victim on a road near their village.
Samia Shaaban, from Kafr el-Sheikh in the Delta had become very lost and ended up in Senhour. The five teenagers stumbled upon her and lured her into the nearby fields. But a man on a motorbike called Ragab Ali discovered what had happened and contacted the police.
Only four of the rapists were named, as follows: Ahmed Eissa, an 18-year-old worker; Ahmed Ibrahim (17), another motorcylist; Mohamed Ahmed (also 17), a blacksmith; and Mahmoud Mohamed (15), a motorcyclist too.
