Cairo - THE repeated eruption of blazes at some significant economic sites, such as the Suez oil refinery and El-Masnouat trading company in Tanta, reveals the escalation of criminal acts of the counter-revolutionary powers. They are struggling to curb the creation of modern democratic state of Egypt following the fall of its dictatorship on February 11, 2011. Since the outbreak of January 25 revolution, Egypt has witnessed dirty tricks perpetrated by the remnants of Mubarak regime, the first being The Battle of the Camel on February 3, 2011 against the revolutionaries in Tahrir. On that occasion, certain noted figures in Mubarak regime hired some thugs to invade the square riding their horses and camels and bearing different kinds of weapons to beat the demonstrations and disperse. Although the cabal ended in failure, and the conspirators, as well as Mubarak himself are standing trial for their deeds, plots against the revolution and the country have continued to be cooked up and executed against the country so as to destabilise it and turn the people against the revolution. Observers predict that, with the approach of the end of the transitional period and the election of a new president of Egypt, there will be more criminal actions in the country with the aim of scaring the public and hindering the completion of the democratic process. Basic investigations into the two incidents of Suez and Tanta blaze have raised suspicions of deliberate criminal acts and not accidents. The first was intended to blow up the entire company's complex, which, if it had happened, would have destroyed the surrounding region within a radius of 30 kilometre, while the second was designed to raise the public's fear by carrying it out in a crowded trading street. Herein, one wonders about the responsibility of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), the Government of Kamal el-Ganzouri and the Public Prosecutor Abdel-Hamid Mahmoud in discovering those responsible for these tragic events before we wake up to an even more catastrophic event. Greater transparency is needed by State institutions while dealing with these sensitive files, so that they will not accused of covering up for those conspirators or of offering them protection against their due punishment.
