CAIRO - Head of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi said that the parliamentary elections will take place as scheduled Monday. In statements to reporters at the Military Central Zone Command headquarters in Cairo, Tantawi said that securing the elections process is the responsibility of the Interior Ministry. However, the Armed Forces will work with the police in securing the process, he said. Tantawi addressed the Egyptian people urging the eligible voters to cast their votes in the elections and asserting the need to come up with a People's Assembly that represents all trends and factions. The success of the elections depends on the people's voting, he said. "Security is there and Egypt is at a crossroads, either succeeds politically, economically and socially or face very dangerous consequences...and we will not let that happen," he said. The elections will not be secured by the army and the police alone but rather by the people themselves, he said.
