CAIRO " 'The latest amendments to the parliamentary election system are better,” presidential hopeful Mohamed Selim el-Awa said on Sunday, adding that he would prefer the elections to be held solely on the basis of the slate system, rather than using the two-third slate and one-third individual candidate system. El-Awa called on all political powers and parties to participate in the forthcoming elections, due to end in December, marking an end too to the transitional period. "The election dates and the division of the constituencies should be announced on Monday at the latest. It is up to the Egyptian voters to choose the next Parliament," el-Awa told a private TV channel late on Saturday, adding that the Islamists probably won't win more than 25 per cent of the seats. He also stressed the illegality of extending the Emergency Law. It is illegal because the Constitution of 1971 is no longer valid, following the toppling of the former regime. “I support peaceful protests and sits-in which don't involve violence damaging public and private property,” el-Awa added.
