CAIRO - Egypt's Grand Mufti Ali Gomaa called on Muslims to direct their zakat (charity) to help Somalia's famine victims. Darul Iftaa, an Egyptian institution responsible for issuing fatwas (religious edicts) said in a statement that the Islamic nations should offer aid to the drought-stricken Somalia victims to alleviate the effects of such a terrible humanitarian disaster. "It is the primary duty of Muslims in various parts of the world to help their fellow Somalis, who are in urgent need," read the statement, which was issued on Friday.
