CAIRO (Updated 1) - Clashes erupted on Wednesday between pro and anti-Hosni Mubarak protesters, the local media reports. The Pro-Mubarak protesters who had gathered outside the Cairo Police Academy – where Mubarak was standing trial with his sons, the ex-interior minister and six security chiefs – clashed with their opponents as the judge ordered a short recess. Many people rushed to the Academy to watch the trial, however only 600 were allowed in considering the area limitations of the courtroom. The hearing is being attended by some families of victims who died during the uprising that toppled Mubarak. A large screen is installed outside the Academy to allow the largest number to follow up the trial. Security forces intervened to separate both sides amid a highly charged atmosphere. According to eyewitnesses, there had already been confrontations when the trial started, as anti-Mubarak protesters and loyalists threw stones at each other.
