CAIRO - Egypt's Army had “sacked” ex-president Hosni Mubarak one day before the later said he stepped down, Egypt's Minister of Justice said on Sunday. During a meeting with the Alexandria Businessmen Association late on Saturday, Minister Mohamed Abdul-Aziz el-Guindi, said that the Army made the decision to sack Mubarak the day before the former leader announced his decision to step down. On the eve of the resignation, the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces met and made it clear that it supported the “legitimate” demands of the popular revolt. The Army has not affirmed, or denied what the Justice Minister said. Mubarak, who ruled Egypt for nearly 30 years, is staying under detention in a hospital in the Red Sea town of Sharm el-Sheikh. He faces charges of corruption and ordering a deadly crackdown on protesters.
