CAIRO - The Shura Council (the Upper House of the Parliament) under the chairmanship of Safwat el-Sherif approved the establishment of a standing commission on human rights after amending some clauses of the Council's by-laws. The Council has approved the terms of reference of the newly created commission and its members, a statement said. Addressing the Council, el-Sherif described this year's elections of the two houses of the Parliament as "a landmark on the road to the enhancement of the democratic practice".
