CAIRO - A Coptic Christian youth injured in Wednesday's incidents outside a church in Giza died Friday, raising the death toll to two Copts as most of the other 80 injured left the hospitals where they received treatment, a medical source said. "Milad Malak Mikhail, 24, was shot in the abdomen in the Wednesday violence and had to undergo surgery, but passed away late on Thursday," said an Al-Haram Public Hospital official. He added that 60 injured people left the hospital. "Some of them are under arrest," he said. One Christian was killed and dozens were wounded in Giza on Wednesday when about 3,000 Orthodox Copts hurled stones at police lines. Some officers threw them back Muslims also hurled rocks at the Christian protesters from behind the security cordon. The Chief Prosecutor decided on Thursday to hold 156 protesters for 15 days on suspicion of inciting the riots. Some Christians demonstrated near the church and others near the Giza Governor's office on Wednesday. Christians make up 10 per cent of Egypt's 80 million people. Giza Governor Sayyed Abdel Aziz said the Christians appeared to have misused a permit for a social centre to build a church. The Christians said they had the right permit and would continue to build the domed three-storey structure.
