CAIRO - Every year, Ramadan soap operas their stars seem to run into trouble, with this year's holy fasting month being no exception. Egyptian Folky singer Ahmed Adwiya has recently filed a case against Ramadan TV serial Al-Hara (The Alley). He claims that he was supposed to sing the songs of both the beginning and end of each episode, but was surprised when he was ousted in favour of Egyptian folkloric singer Tareq el-Sheikh. Meanwhile, Egyptian actor Yehiya el-Fakharani's serial Sheikh el-Arab Hammam is also the target of a lawsuit filed by the descendants of the famous Upper Egyptian leader Hammam, because they believe the serial dishonours their illustrious ancestor. In fact, a second lawsuit has been filed against Egyptian actress Sabrine, for allegedly showing disrespect for the hijab (headscarf) by replacing it with a wig in some of the episodes of the same serial. The TV serial Al-Gamaa (The Group), a biopic on the founder of the banned Muslim Brootherhood has also run into trouble, as has the comic drama El-Foryagi (Streetwise), in which bad language is used. Furthermore, Zohra we Azwagha el-Khamasa has angered many people, because the leading actress in the drama has five husbands, something prohibited in Islam (and Christianity too for that matter). A lawsuit has also been filed against Egyptian actress Ghada Abdel-Raziq for behaving in the same drama in a way that shows disrespect for the principles and ethics of the nursing profession.
