CAIRO, Sept 30, 2018 - The Ministry of Environment has held a workshop in Sharm el-Sheikh for the members of the energy and environment committee in parliament to review efforts exerted by the ministry in the development of South Sinai protectorates.UN The event was held within the framework of preparation for hosting the 14th UN's Biodiversity Conference scheduled to be held in Sharm el-Sheikh, November 17–29, 2018. During the event, the United Nations will call on decision-makers from more than 190 countries to step up efforts to halt the biodiversity loss, and protect the ecosystems that support food and water security and health for billions of people. The UN Biodiversity Conference is the governing body of the Convention on Biological Diversity, and advances implementation of the convention through the decisions it takes at its periodic meetings. In addition, pledges and commitments in support of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 will be made by governments, businesses, NGOs and intergovernmental organisations, cities and sub-national authorities, indigenous peoples, and local communities, youth and civil society. In another development, the regional branch of the Environmental Affairs Agency in Tanta has carried out a campaign to check the exhaust of government vehicles in el-Gharbia Governorate. The aim of the campaign, under the slogan of "Start Yourself", is to ensure that the vehicle exhausts are in conformity with environmental law to conserve the environment and improve fuel efficiency. The campaign is in the context of directives by the Minister of Environment to intensify efforts to control all sources of air pollution, especially during the black cloud season. The aim is to protect the safety and health of all harmful effects of air pollutants.
