CAIRO, Sept 29, 2018 (MENA) - Five Egyptian fishermen held on board a ship off Northern Cyprus have been released, the Foreign Ministry's spokesman Ahmed Abu-Zeid said late Friday. Efforts by the Egyptian embassy in Nicosia secured the release of the fishermen, who were held for around a week, said Abu-Zeid, hailing cooperation of the Cypriot side to settle the issue. Earlier on Friday, a court in Northern Cyprus fined the fishermen around 500 euros, allowing them to leave. The men were accused of violating the territorial waters of Northern Cyprus. The ship's Cypriot owner paid the fines. It is expected to arrive at Limassol port in southern Cyprus on Saturday.
