CAIRO, Sept 24, 2018 (MENA) - Antiquities Minister Khaled el Anani said about 50 per cent of the project for renovating Baron Palace in the Cairo suburb of Heliopolis was finalised. The 100-million-pound project will be completed within a year, he said during an inspection tour of the underway project. The project started in August 2017 to revamp the crumbling palace which was neglected for years. The palace was built towards the end of the nineteenth century by the millionaire Belgian industrialist, amateur Egyptologist and founder of Heliopolis Edouard Louis Joseph, Baron Empain. Designed by a French architect with a penchant for reinforced concrete, the distinctive and historic Indian-inspired mansion's oriental style belies a number of intriguing features besides the material of its construction.
