Wolverhampton, England, August 25, 2018 (News Wires) - Manchester City dropped their first points of the season after being held to a 1-1 draw away to Wolves, who scored a controversial goal. Nuno Espirito Santo's side, who were unchanged from their previous two games, showed good spirit and endeavour in a pulsating first half and had a goal by Helder Costa correctly ruled out for off-side. But they also rode their luck with a below-par Sergio Aguero spurning chances including rattling the post while Raheem Sterling's goal-bound effort was kept out by a world class save from Rui Patricio. The visitors, who started with Sterling and Kyle Walker ahead of John Stones and Gabriel Jesus from the side that thumped Huddersfield Town, dominated the possession in the second period but fell behind to a controversial goal. Wolves played a corner short and Joao Moutinho's pinpoint delivery was put in by the immense Willy Boly - but the ball struck his hand. City brought on Jesus and hit back from a set-piece through Aymeric Laporte's bullet header for his first goal for the club. Both sides brought on attacking substitutions in the closing stages, in the form of Leroy Sane, Riyad Mahrez and Adama Traore, but the defences held out with Aguero rattling the crossbar with a free-kick in stoppage time. Wolves remain unbeaten at home but are still looking for their first win of the season.
