CAIRO, Aug 20, 2018 - Egyptian Navy forces have conducted passing exercises with navy units from Italy, South Korea and Greece, per the Middle East News Agency (MENA). The exercises were conducted in the operational sectors of the northern and southern fleets in the Mediterranean and Red Sea respectively, it added. The exercises were launched within the framework of the Armed Forces General Command's plan for consolidating the areas of military co-operation with sisterly and friendly countries, it reported. Egyptian Navy units conducted joint exercises separately with each of the Italian and Greek navies in the Mediterranean, the news agency said, adding that those exercises included training on techniques of protecting naval units while crossing dangerous areas. On the sidelines of the exercises, the Commander of the Egyptian Navy, Rear Admiral Ahmed Khaled, met the Italian fleet commander who visited some of the units that have recently entered service with the Egyptian Navy, according to the same news agency report. Greek naval academy cadets who accompanying their country's naval units that took part in the exercises paid a visit to the Egyptian Naval Academy, MENA said. In the Red Sea, Egyptian and South Korean units conducted a passing exercise that included the implementation of scenarios for encountering terrorist threats to naval security, MENA added.
