TALLINN, Estonia, August 16, 2018 (News Wires) - As daylight broke on Thursday morning, Atletico Madrid touched down at the airport in the Spanish capital as football kings of the city. The Atletico players flew overnight back to Madrid from Estonian capital Tallinn, having defeated city rivals Real 4-2 after extra time in the UEFA Supercup. The club posted clips on Instagram of the players disembarking the plane in Spain, all looking happy and proud despite the early hour. Antoine Griezmann had the trophy in his grasp, carrying it down the steps while laughing and joking with club and international team mate Lucas Hernandez. All the players are wearing special celebration t-shirts with the slogan 'Super Campeiones' - Super Champions in Spanish - and many still proudly wore their medals. Atletico, who qualified for the Supercup after winning the Europa League last season, gained early bragging rights over rivals Real with victory over the Champions League winners. Diego Costa bagged a brace as Atletico Madrid came from behind to strike four goals past rivals Real Madrid to clinch the 2018 European Super Cup. Julen Lopetegui's side looked set for a victory in 90 minutes after goals from Karim Benzema and Sergio Ramos followed Costa's 49-second opener. However, Real allowed Atleti back into the game, with Costa netting a second to send the match into extra time. It was in the first half of extra time where Diego Simeone's team raced ahead of their rivals, with Saul Niguez smashing home a stunner on the full volley before Koke passed a finish into the back of the net to make it 4-2. It's fair to say the sight of Mohamed Salah being injured in the Champions League final, owing to a Sergio Ramos challenge, is still a little raw for Liverpool fans. Salah, who had been so vital in the club's charge to the Champions League final, had his evening cut short back in May due to an injury to his shoulder, sustained when Ramos hauled him to the ground after just 25 minutes had been played. During the all-Madrid tie, Diego Costa grappled with Spain team-mate Ramos before appearing to kick him in the head as the Real defender rolled on the floor. Liverpool supporters, however, revelled in the fact that Ramos, who was seemingly unharmed by the challenge, was given his comeuppance – even if it wasn't enough to force him off the field as it was Salah. 'What dribbling from Diego Costa, he rolled Sergio Ramos as a ball,' tweeted Liverpool fan account castleofthekop alongside two laughing emojis. '[Jurgen] Klopp will be sending Diego Costa a bottle of 1787 Chateaux Margaux for this challenge on Sergio Ramos,' another account posted.
