CAIRO, July 26 , 2018 (MENA) - Cairo University ranked number one among the top ten universities in Egypt under the Scimago Institutions Rankings. The German University in Cairo (GUC ) ranked second at the Egyptian universities' level, while the EgyptJapan University of Science and Technology (EJUST) came in the third position. Under the same ranking index, Alexandria University came fourth on the Egyptian universities' top ten list. Ain Shams University ranked no 5 and El Mansoura University came 6th, followed by Assiut University which came in the 7th position and Al Azhar University which settled at the 8th. The American University in Cairo came ninth in the ranking and Zaqaziq University was tenth. At the international level, Cairo University ranked 521, the GUC was 569 and EJUST 584, according to the Scimago Institutions Rankings. Scimago Institutions Rankings is a science evaluation resource to assess worldwide universities and research-focused institutions. Academic and research-focused institutions are ranked by a composite indicator that combines three different sets of indicators based on research performance, innovation outputs and societal impact. In statements on Thursday, Cairo University President Mohamed Osman el Khesht said the university seeks to bolster cooperation with its international peers in various fields of knowledge and scientific research.
