CAIRO, July 24, 2018 (MENA) - The House of Deputies (HoD) on Tuesday approved legal measures against some MPs who violated parliamentary rules. The approval came after the committees of ethics and legislative affairs presented two reports on dropping the membership of those MPs. Speaker Ali Abdel Aal explained at the parliament general session that these measures against the MPs will be adopted in accordance with the constitution and the House's statute. He explained that measures of dropping membership of an MP have been in place since l924. Such measures are not out of the ordinary, for they are being adopted in several parliaments in the world including in the US, the Uk and India, he added. MP Sahar Hawary is among those to lose their membership. An Alexandria court had issued a verdict sentencing her to five years in prison over financial charges.
